A high-level debate brought together Fran\u00e7oise M\u00e9lonio and Polish Senator Kazimierz Ujazdowski, on the contemporary relevance of Tocqueville for Poland and for Europe, on the occasion of the publication of Fran\u00e7oise M\u00e9lonio\u2019s latest book.Moderated by Laure Mandeville, the discussion shed light on the major vulnerabilities of our democracies: the crisis of trust, populism, the temptation of despotism, the relationship to power, and the search for meaning.<\/p>\n\n

More than ever, Tocqueville urges us to be active citizens and to mobilize in order to build our European future, amid the turmoil affecting our countries.\u201cLet us have for the future that salutary fear which makes us watchful and ready to fight, and not that paralyzing and enervating dread that weakens hearts and saps their strength.\u201d<\/p>\n\n
