A former student of the \u00c9cole Normale Sup\u00e9rieure (1980) and the \u00c9cole Nationale d\u2019Administration (1988), he holds the agr\u00e9gation in economic and social sciences and a doctorate in history. He began his career at the French Court of Auditors in 1988, then served as advisor to Philippe S\u00e9guin, President of the National Assembly, from 1993 to 1995.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Admitted to the Paris Bar in 1998, he has practiced in economic public law, notably at Gibson, Dunn &amp; Crutcher LLP for 18 years before joining the law firm August Debouzy as a partner in 2023.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">An influential essayist, he is the author of numerous works, including <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Violence and Passions<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> (2018, Vauban Prize) and <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Democracies Against Authoritarian Empires<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> (2023). A regular columnist for <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Le Figaro<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> and <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Le Point<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, he sits on the steering committee of the journal <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Commentaire<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> and the Institut Montaigne, where he chairs the Foreign Affairs and Defense working group<\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Nicolas Baverez is a French lawyer, historian, and economist.
