The Tocqueville Foundation is a French-American initiative founded by Jean-Guillaume de Tocqueville in 2009. It is an international grant-making, prize awarding and operating foundation, registered in France under the auspices of the Fondation Entreprendre.

The purpose of the Tocqueville Foundation is to keep Alexis de Tocqueville’s intellectual legacy alive. Because Tocqueville didn’t only see democracy as a political regime, but rather as a dynamic system fueled by civil society, our actions aim at enhancing the soft-power and influence of civil society on public affairs.
Give life to Alexis de Tocqueville intellectual legacy and empower civil society so that it can contribute to solving the vital problems facing our democracies today.
Create the conditions for an effective collaboration between civil society, youth forces and political decision-makers to enable them to promote the common goods of our democracies and produce a sustainable societal impact together.
The Tocqueville Foundation, Le Figaro and The Atlantic Council are organizing the « Tocqueville Conversations », bringing together politicians, intellectuals and civil society actors from both sides of the Atlantic.
